Library Oak To Be Replaced

Plans are underway to replace the Brentwood Library oak tree that was lost earlier this year to disease. The 300-year-old tree, which was located at the Brentwood Library, has been a symbol of the community’s rich history.

The Leadership Brentwood Class of 2011 Team Alpha has chosen a restoration of this important historical site for their program project. Team members Brit Boatright, Mike Harris, Tiffany Cheuvront, Rob Hazard and Jeremiah Pyron believe this would be a way to preserve the rich history for future generations. The team is working with the Brentwood Tree Committee to create an area for the public to enjoy with benches and a plaque detailing the history of the Brentwood bur oak.

A seedling from the original oak has been donated by Brentwood Residents Steve and Sheree Foster and will be planted at the site. The team is also planning on having a gavel made out of a section of the old oak tree for the City Council. The Leadership Brentwood Team will also be a part of the planning process for the City’s Arbor Day Celebration on April 9 from 10 a.m.-noon at the Brentwood Library.

If individuals and companies would like to be a part of preserving this piece of Brentwood History, donations are being accepted. Please make donations payable to BCS Chamber Foundation: Leadership Brentwood. Donations can be mailed or delivered to the Chamber Offices at 5211 Maryland Way, #1080, Brentwood, TN, 37027. All donation sponsors will be given recognition at the Arbor Day events and at the tree site.
