Williamson County Schools has completed its first vendor training class and seven businesses are now certified partners with the district in the Bring Your Own Technology initiative. On May 15, local businesses trained with Instructional Technology Coordinator Belinda Moss to learn how to meet the needs of WCS students. “We are pleased and excited by the spirit of community demonstrated by area vendors at our first BYOT vendor certification training,” said Moss. “Over 30 participants spent time learning more about the technology needs of our students so they can best guide families when making a device purchase.” |
|
|
Certified vendors who completed the training were given the official WCS BYOT logo to display in their stores and on their websites and to use in advertising. A complete list can be found by selecting this LINK. Another training is scheduled for June 15. While students will not be required to bring their own devices to school next year, they will be allowed to use devices as learning tools in third through twelfth grade classrooms when part of a teacher’s instructional program. Information on BYOT and other school district initiatives will be updated throughout the summer. Be sure to stay informed by reading IN FOCUS. The next issue comes out Thursday, May 24. |

Six Williamson County teachers are among those selected by the Tennessee Department of Education to be core coaches.
Karen Bailey, systemwide; Donna Gallagher, Longview Elementary; Linda Kirby, Clovercroft Elementary; Rena Malkofsky-Berger, Kenrose Elementary; Carol Pisha, Edmondson Elementary; and Allyson Whitley, Clovercroft Elementary are among 205 educators statewide who've been chosen to work with their colleagues and help them navigate the transition to Common Core State Standards in grades three through eight.
The Common Core State Standards are a set of standards for math and English-Language Arts that were developed by state leaders to ensure that every student graduates high school prepared for college or the workforce. The standards are designed to set clear expectations of what students should know in each grade and subject.
The core coaches will spend the spring training to lead sessions this summer for more than 11,000 teachers across the state. Tennessee plans to implement the Common Core State Standards in grades 3-8 math next school year and English-language arts standards in 2013-14. Students will take new assessments reflecting the Common Core standards in both math and English in 2014-15.
