Blueberry Season has Begun Featured
They're packed with antioxidants and are a great low fat, low sodium source of vitamins A and C. Plus they taste oh-so good! Blueberry season has begun and this Saturday, you'll find the first berries of the season at the Blue Honey Farm booth. How do you pick out the best blueberries in the bunch? Look for fresh blueberries that are firm, dry, plump, smooth-skinned and relatively free from leaves and stems. Size is not an indicator of maturity, but color the color is. Berries should be deep-purple blue to blue-black. Fresh blueberries should be stored covered in the refrigerated and not washed until you are ready to eat them. And you can buy those fresh locally grown blueberries now and enjoy them later by freezing them. The secret to freezing blueberries is simple: Don't wash the berries. The berries should be dry before they go to the freezer. Put them into an airtight freezer bag and pop them in the freezer.
And don't forget the blackberries. Blackberry season is also underway and Kelley's Berry Farm has them for you. Great for eating now, using in recipes or freezing to eat later!
